Fully charged in only 3,5 hours
The era of smart technology and wireless charging came to the automotive world, like the fully Advanced Urban Vehicle Technology fully autonomous drive , vehicles will overwhelm the future technology with the speed of light. Today the BMW 5-series iPerformance is the world’s first car manufacturer to ever offer a wireless charging for a car. The lithium-ion battery pack of the BMW 5-series iPerformance with a plug-in hybrid (petrol-electric) drivetrain will be fully charged in just 3,5 hours.
Description of the BMW 530e iPerformance
This BMW 5-series iPerformance is a plug-in hybrid with combination of (petrol-electric) drive, it also has a fully electric eDrive. Excellent fuel consumption with just a combined hybrid drive from 1.9- 2.1 liter to 100km, and an electric power consumption combined kWh/ 13.1 – 14.1
There was a lot of talking over the years but no one ever made such a device and find a solution to implement in a vehicle, the first ever who did it is BMW iPerformance plug-in hybrid but as an only option for now is the model 530e.
Like all wireless charging pads, the BMW iPerformance pad work’s in a similar way, through the center info screen inside the cabin it will display when the car will actually match or be attached with the charging pad below the car on the floor it self.
The charging pad will connect and start charging in that way, through the secondary magnetic coil will transfer electricity to the 9.4 kWh lithium-ion batteries, which are fully charged in only 3.5 hours.
Compared to a wall charger that charges 3.7 kW, the difference is small. The so-called “Plug-in Hybrid” allows a fully electric eDrive with only for 45 kilometers. When the battery is empty the BMW 530e iPerformance will act as a classic hybrid vehicle.
However the BMW 530e iPerformance is a combination of 2.0 liter petrol engine and an electric motor with a total power of 252 hp and 420 Nm of torque. The transmission is a three-speed automatic gearbox and the power is transmitted either to the rear wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
The top speed of a 235 km/h you can achieve with driving in the hybrid mode, combining the 2.0 liter engine with the electrical motor, but only 140 km/h in fully electric eDrive mode.
