Development of the Opel Grandland X
Opel is expanding its range of SUV’s rapidly. The newest and largest in the series is Opel Grandland X, which by the quality of materials, equipment and general sophistication, puts it’s self in the very top of the class.
It’s no secret that it was developed on the Peugeot 3008 mechanical platform, which they share the same engine. However, for the complete enjoyment, Opel engineers have done a tremendous job.
Design of the Opel Grandland X
The aesthetics of Opel’s complete exterior look was held, and yet the car was sufficiently unique and original. The same situation is in the interior as well.
Complete design was done by the Germans, including the design of the seats as well with the famous AGR certificate in terms of ergonomics quality.
We have to admit that this is perhaps the best C-segment from Opel till now, including the choice of material. In the car industry, it is true that part of the interior is placed in a certain type of material, depending on the class to which the car belongs.
This was a serious upgrade that took place among other vehicles, so Opel was applying a new Insignia strategy. This means that the soft surfaces are not only on the complete control panel and in the door, but also on the central console, which rarely has in this class.
Opel Grandland X Specifications
For start of production, only two engines are planned to be built in the Opel Grandland X gamma. We know from the PSA group earlier, that the first one is a 1.6 liter Turbocharged Diesel Engine with 120 horsepower and the other one is 1.2 liter Turbocharged Petrol Engine with three cylinders and a 130 hp.
More and more customers are deciding on buying a Petrol engine this days, which is why, due to cheaper maintenance and less susceptibility to poor fuel quality, and it’s a cleaner choice for the 1.2 turbo petrol engine has also a decent fuel consumption.
The latest three-stroke engines have achieved tremendous progress over the engines for that last five to six years. It is very difficult to recognize by sound that they are with three cylinders and not with four . The engine is working extremely balanced and maybe one of the quietest in its class with no vibrations even in very high revs , from a driver’s perspective and also as a passenger.
The engine is extremely strong at low revolutions and has power at high speeds thanks to its turbocharging , driving on the highway you will not be disappointed with its power output and the speed limit, especially you will be surprised with the acceleration of up to 160 km and a maximum speed of 190 km / h and with all the constantly pressed pedal on the floor, with a consumption of only 10.5 l / 100 km.
The stability of Opel Grandland X at this speed was really fascinating, as well as the precision of the steering mechanism. But in the City/Urban drive you will get a 6.2 l / 100km which is more than decent in the perspective on his body weight.
Technology and Safety Features of the Opel Grandland X
The newcomer offers driving fun all year round and on every surface. In addition to the optional electronic IntelliGrip traction that ensures best traction and stable handling regardless of whether the Opel Grandland X is travelling on snow, mud, sand or wet surfaces.
AGR-certified ergonomic front seats (Campaign for Healthier Backs), heated steering wheel as well as seat heating front and rear ensure top comfort. The tailgate that opens and closes with a simple foot movement enables easy access from outside.
In general the Opel Grandland X driver and passengers enjoy top connectivity with the latest generation of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatible IntelliLink systems as well as the personal connectivity and service assistant Opel OnStar including Wi-Fi Hotspot and new services such as booking hotel rooms and searching for parking.
There is also plenty of room for one family to pack for a long time. It turned out that Opel also introduced a wireless charger for mobile phones, though in a box under the armrest between the front seats which came first from the Insignia Second Generation.
This ultra-modern SUV has assistance and comfort features for the Opel Grandland X are: Automatic Cruise Control with pedestrian detection and Automatic Emergency Braking, Driver Drowsiness Alert, Advanced Park Assist and the 360 Camera are just some highlights. Opel again delivers on its commitment to leadership in lighting technology, equipping the Opel Grandland X with bright driving light thanks to Adaptive Forward Lighting (AFL) LED headlamps.
Ideally equipped, the 4.48-meter long Opel Grandland X and third member of the Opel X family is a true contender in the booming SUV class and will further revitalize the segment. In the compact class alone, the SUV share has increased from 7 % in 2010 to nearly 20 % today. At the same time, the Opel Grandland X expands the Opel portfolio in the very popular compact car segment.
