Toyota Will Stop Shipping Diesel Engine Models in Europe?

Toyota is likely to put an end to the launch of new diesel engine in Europe.

This became clear from the current interview by Didier Leroy, who is a member of the leading brand management team for the Old Continent, who told to several car media magazines that the diesel cars are no longer in the brand’s plans.

“We took the view, a long time ago, that we would not sell the C-HR with a diesel engine,” said Leroy. According to him, three years ago, the company’s dealers were angry about this solution, but it was part of Toyota’s long-term strategy to eliminate the diesel engine from its portfolio.

“At the time, the distributors were against my decision. They said they needed diesel for the market. But we needed to follow the long-term trend of eco-vehicles,” he continued.

He also added that Toyota plans to phase-out the diesel engine and cars in Europe first, before phasing out globally. It’s interesting that he also added that these plans were in the company’s plans before the big diesel scandal.
